Incredible Hulk Halloween Costumes

incrediblehulk1If you're looking for an incredible hulk costume, you have come to the right place. The Hulk is a great character for Halloween or for fancy dress parties. What better character to adopt than one of the Marvel comics superheroes. The character first appeared in 1962 and was created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. The Hulk is, of course, the alter ego of Dr. Bruce Banner. The transformation of Bruce into his alter ego is instigated by the emotions of anger, fear or grief and the strength of the Hulk increases with the degree of his emotion. In the first issue of the Marvel comic, the Hulk's color had various shades of grey to green but in succeeding issues the color settled on green. Dr. Banner designed the gamma bomb and was accidentally exposed to massive amounts of radiation after a test detonation. This is what led to his condition. As well as starring in his own comics, the Hulk was also a member of the Avengers, a team of superheroes which also included Ant-Man, Wasp, Thor and Iron Man.  In the fourth issue of the Avengers, Captain America also joined the Avengers. The Hulk was also had a guest appearance with the Fantastic Four in issue 12 and 25-26. He also made a guest appearance in The Amazing Spider-Man, issue 14. The Hulk was also a member of the Defenders along with Dr. Strange, the Silver Surfer and Namor the Sub-Mariner. The members changed in different issues but this was the most popular group. Other members were Nighthawk, Valkyrie and Hellcat. The Hulk was played in a TV series by Lou Ferrigno. Lou won the Mr. Universe title when he was 21 and again at 22. His physique required no enhancement to play the Hulk. In later years, the writers introduced She-Hulk (Jennifer Susan Walters, the cousin of Dr. Banner). She was shot and seriously wounded by criminals. She underwent the change after having a blood transfusion from Dr. Banner. She first appeared in 1980. She was also a member of the Fantastic Four and the Avengers at times.

Hulk Films

Let's take a look at some of the popular Hulk films made throughout the years:

The Incredible Hulk Returns - a 1988 TV movie. In this film Bill Bixby played Bruce Banner and Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk. There's a fight between Hulk and the Viking god Thor.

The Trial of the Incredible Hulk - a 1989 TV movie. Again Bill Bixby played Bruce Banner and Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk. The film was interesting for having Daredevil. Rex Smith played Daredevil (blind defense attorney Matt Murdock). One of the creators of the Hulk, Stan Lee, had a cameo role as jury foreman.

The Death of the Incredible Hulk - a 1990 TV movie. Again Bill Bixby played Bruce Banner and Lou Ferrigno played the Hulk. Bruce Banner apparently dies at the end.

Hulk - 2003 film directed by Ang Lee and starring Eric Bana as Bruce Banner. The film explores the origins of the Hulk which are said to result from experiments conducted by his father on both himself and his son.

The Incredible Hulk - a 2008 film directed by Louis Leterrier and starring Edward Norton as both the Hulk and Dr. Banner.

Lou Ferrigno

For me Lou Ferrigno in the original TV series is the ultimate portrayal of the Hulk. The computer generated figures of the later movies aren't as realistic and convincing as Lou Ferrigno. Being  a body builder who has won Mr. America and Mr. Universe, he didn't need any computer enhancement to make him convincing as the Hulk. Richard Kiel was actually hired for the series first and some filming done before it was decided that he was not muscular enough. Lou took over and continued to play the character in the series until 1981.

Later he played the role in three TV movies which are listed above, the last released in 1990. It's interesting that his heroes as a child were the Hulk and Spiderman.

The other film that I personally remember Lou for was Pumping Iron, a 1977 documentary on the run up to the 1975 Mr. Olympia body building competition. The film followed Arnold Schwarzenegger and his competitors Lou Ferrigno and Franco Columbu.
